[OPEN BETA] Litchi Pilot

Well I am not an app developer, I am more of a semi retired telecom engineer/projekt manager with some ideas. If the stick control waypoint mission can be stored in a mini “remote” onboard the drone it would be nice. I guess the hurdle will be that the full protocol stack for the DJI proprietary radio communication need to be implemented?

DJI does provide a Mobile SDK interface for many of their drones. It’s just a matter of an app developer willing to incorporate this 3rd piece of hardware into the control loop. I’m guessing this is not very likely to happen.

If you want to do work in that direction DJI drones are really not the right ecosystem, and you’d probably be far happier going the ArduPilot route:

Yes but that SDK is upper level and above the communication protocol stack. You still need the DJI remote to do the communication thru DJI proprietary wifi radio.

that is why its a “beta” program. there is no better torture testing of a new software than the end user.

I have a DJI Mini 3 and want to use the Litchi Pilot beta. What do I do?

From the opening post:

UPDATE : The beta program is currently at full capacity. If you didn’t make it into the beta program this time, we ask that you please wait for the public release

Looking forward to the release of Litchi Pilot. Litchi for DJI Drones is great, now I have a mini3 pro . . . excited to use Litchi Pilot once it is released from beta testing.

Looking forward to see this once its done. Is there a timeline on completion for the pilot app? Im willing to throw money down. Hoping itll work decently for photogrammetry type work as dronelink you need to pay if you want to use it commercially.
Other apps exist but no one supports the m3 yet, thanks dji for not being great with supporting products!

And why shouldn’t you pay for it, if you’re making money from using it, you pay for other software

Hi. I’ve been submitting “feedback” through the Pilot apk portal on the tablet but in case it hasn’t gotten through…I just wanted to say the Beta has been working well for me on an older android tablet with A10 and a non-pro M3…
No issues with various missions created first with Litchi ON the tablet, run on the Mini2 first to see if they’re credible, and then imported to Pilot (excepting my first attempt which was probably my error)
A couple of comments: I like that the drone’s yaw is displayed. Keep that, please. The compass on the Litchi app is a little too small…so this would compensate for that…Also, It’d also be nice if the camera pitch could be included in the photo EXIF but I know that DJI FLY doesn’t include it so it may be impossible.

I look forward to the release!

Quick question, as an owner of Mini SE, Phantom 3 Standard and Mini 3 Pro, will the older drones be incorporated into Litchi Pilot making it a one stop app for all or, and I am assuming this, I will need to buy both?

You will need to buy the original Litchi for the older drones and Litchi pilot for the mini 3

Thanks Martin, I suspected as much, but can always hope

As Martin stated, going forward, there will be two Litchi apps. One for the older drones and one for the newer drones. The reason for this is because DJI supported their older drones with MSDK version 4 and their newer drones with MSDK version 5. Since one app cannot use both MSDKv4 and MSDKv5 simultaneously, there must be two apps.

So, can I assume, that in the future PILOT with be the app that will support DJI Air3 and Mini 4 Pro because of the MSDK V5?

That depends if DJI decide to add those drones to the MSDK, I wouldn’t hold your breath

Yours is a good assumption providing that DJI decides to add support for those newer drones. It will be interesting because the last drone with on-board waypoints AND supported by the DJI MSDK was the Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom. Ever since those two models, the only MSDK support was for drones that required the “Virtual Sticks” implementation of waypoints.

Can we have an update on the release date?
1, 2, 4, 6 months?

How longs a piece of string, from what I understand it will depend on when DJI get the SDK sorted properly to work with modern Android devices
