No Smooth camera transition between waypoints with hub 2.0

I noticed starting today that my hub 2.0 waypoint missions with my DJI Air 3s no longer have smooth transitions for drone heading and gimbal pitch between waypoints.

I have heading and gimbal pitch modes set to POI. Until today, the camera would smoothly transition from the POI at one waypoint to the POI at the next.

Starting today, with the same settings, the heading and gimbal pitch remain constant until the drone reaches the next waypoint. Then the heading and gimbal pitch abruptly change to the settings at this waypoint. This destroys the smooth, elegant transitions that make for appealing videos.

What happened to the cinematic smooth transitions between waypoints? How can I get this functionality back?

This is something we changed recently, although we need to do more testing with DJI Fly to confirm.

In DJI Fly, according to our tests, when a waypoint’s heading mode is set to POI, and the next waypoint is set to Custom, the drone will focus on the POI for the whole segment between these 2 waypoints, then as soon as it starts the next segment, it will quickly adjust its heading to whatever the waypoint’s custom heading angle is set to.

We did not test what happens when you have 2 consecutive waypoints focusing on 2 different POIs, but given the above I would expect DJI Fly to do what Litchi Hub’s simulation shows, i.e. it does not transition between both POIs, instead it will focus on POI 1 between the 2 waypoints, then quickly adjust its heading to focus on POI 2 as soon as it passes the target waypoint.

In other words, have you tested your mission outside? does the actual flight match the Litchi Hub simulation? or does DJI Fly transitions between the 2 POIs as if both waypoints were set to Custom heading mode with their heading angle set to look at the POI?

It looks as though the drone camera smoothly transitions during an actual waypoint flight. I am unable to attach a flight record for you to review. Is there a way to attach a non-image file? Here’s a 48 second youtube video showing the smooth transitions: https://youtu.be/9tLXvpowPwU

Also, the hub simulation does not show the heading and pitch of the camera at the final waypoint in the mission. It’s as if the simulator acts on the waypoint settings as it exits a waypoint. So to see the heading and pitch at the final waypoint I have to add an extra waypoint.

As long as the transitions are smooth during an actual flight, Litchi is useful to me. But I really enjoy using the camera projection graphics to see what will be recorded between waypoints when I’m working in the hub.

Would it be possible for you to restore the smooth camera transitions in the simulator? Also could you improve the final waypoint behavior?

Sincerely,

Bill

Hi,

I did a test with a Mini 4 Pro.

In other words: The simulation in the new Hub does not correspond with a real flight.

Can confirm this with a real world test also.
We will fix it.
Unfortunately there are a lot of edge cases with DJI’s implementation…
For example if a WP has custom gimbal angle, and the next WP is set to focus on a POI, the gimbal transitions from the custom angle to 0/horizon (?!)

In a DJI Fly Mission for a specific waypoint, when either Heading or Gimbal Tilt is set to POI, the other has be set to POI also, and both have be set to the same POI
