Mission Planning Without Data

I’m considering using Litchi to control my DJI Air 2S. There are some maneauvers I want to do that would be better from a “planned” mission since they’re kind of hard to do manually.

I’m thinking that I will want to plan these missions “on the fly,” when I arrive at a scene and see what I have to work with from a creative perspective. The problem is that I spend a good deal of time photographing in areas where I don’t have cell phone coverage, so I’m concerned that I may not be able to plan a mission since I can’t bring up a map.

To be clear, in this mode I would be working from an Android phone, which is used to control the drone. The phone does not have a SIM card, so when it needs to be online, I either do it using WiFi at home, or set my “real” phone (an iPhone) as a WiFi Hotspot. But of course, this won’t help when I’m out and about and don’t have cell coverage.

Any insights would be appreciated.

Although having internet access and a live map when planning a mission is desirable, it is not absolutely necessary. What you can try is configure the controller to save a waypoint on a button press, then position the drone at key locations and press the button on the remote to save each of those locations. That way, you can build a waypoint mission live, on-site, without internet connectivity. Also, if you save that mission while on-site, once your phone does have internet access, it will sync that mission you created to Litchi’s server so that it is available on the Mission Hub.

That was what I was hoping to hear. Thaks. Next for me is to get started with Litchi and see what it can do.
