Heading set to custom and the whole mission runs fine on the simulator. When it gets to first waypoint doesn’t turn just bounces around sort of like it’s on a rubber band. Have to RTH every time. It’s driving me nuts trying to figure out. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob
Welcome to the forum.
Your subject says that the drone won’t turn at the first waypoint. The body of your message says that the drone bounces around at the first waypoint. Those are two different things. Bouncing around is certainly not expected. Perhaps you will need to clarify exactly what is happening.
One thing that may not be happening as expected is the specified heading at the first waypoint. The first waypoint of a mission is problematic in that as the drone approaches this first waypoint the heading of the drone will be pointing to the first waypoint from the drone’s current position. The heading configured at the first waypoint is not executed until after the drone reaches the first waypoint.
Thanks for the quick reply, Wes (assuming that’s your name). About half an hour ago, I finally figured out why this happened. I automatically figured that the mission was stored on the drone. It turns out that it is not on the Mavic Air 2 and others. It relies on the remote controller (RC) for constant communications to navigate the drone throughout the mission. Where I launched the drone from was frojm the back of my house under a large overhang. The first waypoint was in the front of the house, about a quarter of a mile away. So, what was happening at this waypoint was that the drone had an intermittent connection with the RC. But this was insufficient to signal an RTH by losing total connection with the RC and just making the mission unexplainable. So I was in the back of my house under a large overhang with the RC pointing away from the first point. What was baffling is that if I did get it following the mission, it was following waypoint to waypoint like a drunken sailor. Very weird behavior. It went back to normal tracking when the mission came into my range on the side of my house and further on completing the mission. I didn’t realize why at the time. So, I tried starting the mission in the front of the house, and it worked perfectly, keeping the RC in line with the drone. This should be a vital consideration for pilots using drones that don’t store the mission on the drone itself. The drone needs unobstructed vision to receive its directions/navigation from the RC constantly.
Thanks again,
Bob
Ah yes, your unsuspecting drone bumped up against that dastardly Virtual Sticks villain that has already caused much wailing and gnashing of teeth among DJI Fly-based drone owners.
If only it were possible to stick a wooden stake through the infernal heart of Virtual Sticks, the world would be a far better place. I express this angst in my capacity as a deeply remorseful Mini 3 owner.
