How is the 1st Waypoint reached?

I was wondering how exactly the 1st waypoint is reached.

The only mission I flew my home point was quite close to the 1st waypoint. what happens if there is a big obstacle between the 1st waypoint and the home point?

Is it possible to fly manually to the position of the 1st waypoint and then let Litchi take over?

The drone will ascent to the height of the Starting Waypoint, then fly in a straight line to that waypoint.
The Starting waypoint does NOT have to be Waypoint-1.

Your drone may crash into that obstacle.

That is what I always do.
