Dedicated Android Device

Long story short, I use a DJI Mini2 to do aerial mapping for work purposes, with my iPhone as the controller. It works great for my application, largely because within the Canadian regulatory framework there are no limits on my use of the drone (except for common sense and the normal civil liability that applies to literally everything I do). My concern is that it’s going to be very difficult to source a replacement Mini2 if I ever lose my existing one, whether to angry birds (it hasn’t happened, but there’ve been a time or two I thought it might), angry hobos (actually happened to one of my partners), or angry trees (yeah, I did that one). And since DJI has stopped developing the iOS SDK, if and when the time comes that I need to move to a new sub-250g DJI, I’m thinking I’ll need to move to Litchi Pilot on an Android device. What’s my best solution there?

DJI’s standard controllers with build-in screen don’t allow apps to be installed on them (so far the RC & RC 2), the more expensive smart controllers do.

If you want to use an Android smart device (phone/tablet) that leaves the DJI RC-N series controllers.

I still like to use my Samsung Galaxy S7Edge because of the physical buttons outside of the screen area.
However it has a micro-USB port and DJI doesn’t provide that cable anymore as a standard accessory.

What I mean to say is, any Samsung S-series phone after the S7 will do the job as of this day.
(So far I’ve only used Samsung devices).

My Honor 8X - Model JSN-L21 - Android 10 was cheap and works well.

I’ve been twitchy about those new controllers with screens specifically because I’m uncertain of the ability to install apps on them. Unless I clearly see indications that Litchi is supported on one, I’m definitely going to stay away from them.

With regards to using a device with a micro USB port, isn’t it fair to say that any USB-C to micro USB cable would work? With my current Mini2 I’ve got three short USB-C cables: Thunderbolt, USB-C, and micro - wouldn’t you expect that one of those should work with a new screen-less controller? I’ve also used a normal full-sized USB-C to Thunderbolt cable when I had a larger case on my phone - shouldn’t the same approach with the appropriate cable be functional for pretty much any device?

Nice. I know nothing about Android, but it sounds like you’re saying you don’t need to be running the current version of Android in order to run Litchi?

Yes. I should add that I am using Litchi V4.24.1g, and I don’t know if that’s the latest version. As it is working perfectly I have is so that Litchi will not update.
