Behavior change between Mini 3 and Mini 4 Pro on same Waypoint Route

Running the latest version of Beta Pilot App (526). I have a small survey I use for repeat changes. I ran it yesterday and fount the DJI Mini 3 flew the route with no problems happily snapping pics at each waypoint. I then ran it with the Mini 4 Pro, it would stop and dwell at each waypoint for 10-20 seconds and then snap the pic. They were both running the exact same mission on the same Android A35 G running Android V15. Just weird for the two drones to react differently to the same mission back to back.

The Mini 3 Pro and the Mini 4 Pro are very different drones. The Mini 3 depends on virtual sticks while the Mini 4 has on-board waypoints. Were you using the Litchi engine or the DJI engine when executing the mission with the Mini 4?

Good question. While doing this back to back. I finished first on the Mini 3 with the RC-N1 and swapped the phone over to RC-N2 for the Mini 4 Pro mission. Ran it in Litchi the same as before, didn’t shut down the phone or change anything. Now if it automatically switched, how might I tell? I can run it tomorrow and check. Just need to know what to look for.

I have done Litchi missions with the Mini 4 Pro before the last update and it didn’t pause at each waypoint.

In the new Mission Hub, if you select the Mini 4 Pro in the global settings, below that there is a selection for “Flight Engine” with choices “Litchi” or “Onboard”. The DJI/Onboard engine doesn’t provide as much control for “waits” and “photo captures”.

Tried your suggestion, all works like it should, thx! The other thing is the camera view tends to freeze or not be present at all. It would freeze for the Mini 3 and not be present for the Mini 4 Pro. The Mini 3 would start working just before landing, Mini 4 Pro never did come on line.

Camera issues are often caused by the DJI app running in the background. You need to make sure the DJI app is “force closed” before running the Litchi app.

Wes, When you say “Force Close,” exactly what do you mean by that, I usually just swipe up and close it. Not an Android expert, by any stretch.

I’m not an Android user so I may be using the wrong terminology. See step 5 here:

Late question: When using Litchi Pilot with the Mini 4 Pro does it use VSC if you choose “Litchi” as the engine or does it upload flights to the drone’s onboard flight engine?

Rob,

You know, I have been using the Litchi engine. I did do a test today for a new tiny survey camera. The drone had an issue when it got to waypoint 1 it would terminate the mission due to Flight Mode Changed. I should redo it and try re-flying it with the Mini 4 engine. It is kind of a longish drive out in the middle of nowhere in part of my geo study area. I did upgrade to the new Litchi Pilot Beta last week and was using the new Hub for messing with actions at waypoints.

James

Yes. For the Mini 4 Pro it uses VSC. If you use the “Onboard” (DJI) engine, it will upload the waypoint mission to the drone.

Thanks. I don’t actually have a DJI Mini 4 Pro, I have a Skyrover X1 which is a near clone of the Mini 4 Pro and has the same waypoints planning interface. I’ve done several waypoints flights using its interface in its app (a near clone of DJI Fly). I’ll see if I can get Litchi Pilot to work with it.

Now that’s interesting. Have you checked to see if the Skyrover X1 controller has the same KMZ files as a DJI drone? I would very much like to see a sample KMZ file from the Skyrover.

Where would I find a KMZ file? I see no option to export one from their app.

I found the flight log (txt) files. They appear to be same as DJI FLY but they are also encrypted and cannot be decrypted by Flight Reader or Airdata UAV apps. I’ve brought it to the attention of both app developers. Airdata are looking into it. I also brought it to the attention of Skyrover but they have no clue what I’m talking about!

Actually now I think about it, while I was rummaging through the app folder on my Android phone to get the flight logs files, I do vaguely remember seeing some kmz files. I’ll take another look. Unless there is another way to get them from the app.

This must be done manually by connecting your controller to your computer. This document will describe where the KMZ files are located:

I already found the files. However they are only 1-2KB in size. I opened a couple in Google Earth Pro but it showed nothing.

DJI KMZ files are not the same as Google Earth KMZ files. They are different formats. Please contact me through my web site so that you can email one of them to me.

The KMZ files are in the “waypoint” folder under the main app folder. They are only 1-2KB in size. Not much in them.

I was able to use your online utility to convert them to Litchi CSV files. That is as far as I’ve got for now.
