I haven’t flown my Phantom 3 Standard in a while, but, when it was my daily driver I never once encountered an error message informing me that the distance to be covered during a waypoint mission exceeded a factory-set limitation. It was due to such a fixed 500-meter downrange limitation that I sold off my 2020 Fimi X8 quadcopter a while back since I refuse to fly a drone on a leash…
This odd error message that appears on your smart device screen when you attempt to launch your Phantom 3 Standard on missions exceeding 500 meters suggests one of two possible scenarios might be the case.
The two scenarios of my speculation are that EITHER a few production runs of Phantom 3 Standard drones that were originally intended for export to “sensitive” countries rolled off the assembly line hard-wired to remain within a 500-meter radius of their launch point, OR, that DJI has in more recent times surreptitiously imposed via “firmware updates” some new range limitations on several of their older drone models which are " no longer supported" by DJI.
Flying Litchi waypoint missions autonomously my old Phantom 3 Standard routinely covers well over 6 country miles per round-trip flight out here beyond the geographical jurisdictions where BVLOS limitations apply, so I can say with certainty that the 500-meter distance limitation error message you’ve described is NOT one I have ever seen or read about in the past on any online forums frequented by Phantom 3 Standard owners.
He doesn’t use Litchi.
He’s trying to develop his own app using DJI Mobile SDK v4.16.2 and is still using/modifying a Github sample app.
He posted the same question in the MavicPilots Forum for some reason:
My guess is that this specific SDK version has a maximum waypoint corner radius limit of 500m and/or a maximum 3D distance limit of 500m between 2 consecutive waypoints and/or between the home point and WP1, specific for the Phantom 3 Standard and he exceeds one of them.
Hmm, I fail to recognize the motivation behind embarking on the challenging project of coding and then de-bugging an all-new dedicated waypoint feature for a museum-piece Phantom 3 when it is so easy to acquire the affordable $25 Litchi app which executes all flight plan variables with such repeatable exactitude.
By way of an analogy, I would, given the choice, much rather save time by purchasing a discounted $25 t-shirt even if I possessed the skills to painstakingly tailor a DIY t-shirt from exquisite Mongolian mole-skin fabric using a needle and thread or sewing machine.
Because I’m integrating it with a custom app I’m making.
I’m in the Dominican Republic and i think there’s a 500m distance law here? Can anyone confirm if i have the right info on that?
Would that be the reason that it can’t go 500m in a mission? To be clear i have a waypoint each 100m. And i did one with 3 (300m total) which worked fine.
A work around im thinking of coding would be for it to land after 450m, for example, and start a new mission from there. Could that work?
Would trees block that? I test near a forest and i wasnt getting GPS signals back to my controller after only about 200m
(My phantom 4 will accept 4km etc missions, and start to execute, but then seem to do Return To Home at 500m into the mission. And the Phantom 3 just won’t even accept uploading of a 500+ meter mission. It just gives that error)
also thanks for replying, each reply means a lot on my journey here
