Camera framing center point during waypoint missions

I am trying to plan a photo mission and have set waypoints around the point of interest. I have figured out that the red line in the blue point of view cone is the bottom of the camera frame.

Is there a way to determine where the center point of the camera? Right now, I am just eyeballing it based on the red line.

My goal is to put the center point of the view frame on the point of interest so it’s centered in the middle third of the picture.

I understand that I can adjust the gimbal angle to move the bottom of the frame- I am just checking to see if there is a more precise method to determine the centerpoint of the picture when planning the mission on the computer.

Personal note, it would be nice to have a box that shows your middle third square for a photo that way you can properly align your waypoints, gimbal angle and desired picture. If such a box existed, it would also be very nice to change the aspect ratio of the camera for instance, I’m using a DJI Mavic 4 pro and would like to be able to determine the center point for 3:2 or 16:9 aspect ratios

The center of the frame does NOT change with the aspect ratio.

To be clear heading mode orientation to the POI means the center of camera frame is the POI?

Assuming this locks the gimbal angle to the POI?

Assuming the gimbal is locked to the POI, Just want to confirm, the closer you are to the point of interest, the steeper, the gimbal angle and the less horizon you will see?

And the further away from the target, the gimbal angle is shallower and the more of the horizon you’ll see?

The reason for asking is a lot of Realestate photos want to have a quarter of the picture showing the sky/horizon and I’m trying to figure that out prior to getting on site.

The amount of horizon showing will also depend on your altitude.

In the Litchi Hub, you can drag the Waypoint or the POI and see the effect it has on the frame.

Next question:

When the heading is locked to the POI the drone flies in an orbit path sideways versus turning and going straight to the next waypoint point. Would appreciate perspectives to see if Flying in orbit/sideways is more efficient, safer, and faster?

I routinely do Commercial Realestate shoots where they want the cardinal directions shot at high altitude, then lower altitude and then close in. Sometimes the distance between the Cardinal directions is a decent distance and I think the drone would fly faster and use its avoidance sensors better flying straight versus sideways/orbit path.

I understand that Flying in the orbit path and focus focusing on the POI will allow the Drone to take pictures as it is flying through the waypoint.

Given that the Drone is Flying above known obstacles, I don’t think it’s a huge priority to be using the forward-looking sensors however, just curious of everyone’s opinion if it would be faster/more efficient to have the Drone fly forward versus sideways.

  • I know in the settings you can change from smooth curves to straight lines (point to point) what the drones orientation is always towards the point of interest. For a small area shoot changing the save me about two seconds based on the projected flight time in litichi, so in this instance, not a huge deal.
  • I’m assuming I could create an additional waypoint in between the two distances and have the drone just fly the path versus having it focus on the point of interest.
  • Is there a better way to do this? Again, just looking for opinions.
